Mexico is moving to add a constitutional amendment banning genetically modified corn seeds. The amendment follows the December defeat of a related effort, after a trade dispute panel ruled that the 2023 decree banning GM corn in dough, tortillas, and animal feed violated USMCA.
A constitutional ban on GM corn seeds would threaten a major outlet for US corn exports to Mexico, which is bearish for US corn prices and feed demand.
