APHIS confirmed New World screwworm in a cow in Chiapas, Mexico, in late November 2024, and US authorities suspended cattle trade while developing screening protocols. The goal is to resume trade in early January 2025.
The analysis estimates the suspension will cut US cattle imports by 150,000 to 170,000 head in late November and December.
