The Federal Reserve cut its key rate by a quarter point, its third cut this year, and projected only two cuts in 2025 instead of four. The Canadian loonie fell against a strengthening US dollar, which outperformed other currencies.
A firmer dollar and a slower path to lower US rates raise the cost of dollar-priced commodities for importers abroad. A weaker loonie and other currencies can cut purchasing power for feed imports in those markets.
