The United National Transport Union said wage talks with Transnet, South Africa's state ports and rail company, have deadlocked, and it is moving toward strike action. The union wants a 10% raise while Transnet offers 6% annually for two years and 5.5% in the third.
A strike would disrupt rail and port handling of bulk exports and farm goods such as citrus, which could slow shipments and add to logistics costs, though the effect on grain benchmark prices is limited.
