South Africa's state-owned ports and freight-rail company Transnet reached a pay deal with its two recognized labor unions, averting a strike. The agreement followed arbitration led by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration and provides 6% annual increases for three years.
Settling the dispute removes the risk of disruption to mineral and agricultural export flows through South African ports. The effect on global feed grain prices is minor.
