Bloomberg reports China has asked hog farmers to be prudent in expanding sow herds and to halt secondary fattening of pigs, aiming to support prices amid deflation. Wholesale pork prices are near their lowest in almost a year, down 10% from a January peak.
Guidance to restrain hog supply would reduce future feed demand from China, a bearish factor for corn and soymeal, while supporting hog prices.
