The European Commission's Joint Research Centre June ASAP assessment finds good maize prospects in southern Africa, improved East African yields in bimodal areas, and mixed winter cereal prospects in the Middle East and North Africa. It also flags delayed crop growth in parts of Ethiopia, South Sudan and Sudan, with rising food insecurity during the lean season.
Good southern African maize harvests add to global supply, which is mildly bearish for corn, while mixed MENA winter cereals may modestly lift import needs for wheat and barley.
