The Fed's preferred core PCE inflation index rose 0.3% month-over-month in July, matching forecasts, and reached 2.9% year-over-year. Front-end Treasury yields rose and the dollar gained as traders pulled back on bets for rapid rate cuts, while the loonie fell on weaker Canadian growth data.
A firmer dollar on reduced Fed easing expectations tends to pressure dollar-denominated commodity prices and can weigh on U.S. export competitiveness for grains and meals. Stronger dollar also lowers the local-currency cost of imported feed ingredients in weaker-currency countries.
