The yuan reached its strongest level against the dollar since November, rising as far as 7.1447 per dollar onshore before giving back gains. The move followed the PBOC's largest fixing strengthening since January and a rally in Chinese equities ahead of a September 3 parade.
Yuan appreciation against a weaker dollar supports Chinese import purchasing power at the margin, but the move is largely a currency and equity story with limited direct impact on feed commodity prices.
