The yuan firmed against the US dollar on December 28, 2017, helped by a stronger PBOC midpoint of 6.5412 and broad dollar weakness as US Treasury yields fell. The currency was on track for its steepest annual gain since 2008.
A weaker dollar and firmer yuan make dollar-priced feed imports cheaper for China, which can support its buying of US soybeans and meal. The effect on grain prices is indirect and modest.
