The yuan breached the 7 per dollar level for the second time this year, with the onshore currency closing at 6.9453. The central parity was fixed at 6.9755 after a 103-pip gain, driven by a weaker US dollar and seasonal FX settlement demand from exporters.
Exporter FX settlement and a weaker dollar are pushing the yuan higher, which lowers China's dollar-denominated import costs. This can modestly support Chinese demand for US ag products.
