The Korean won weakened to 1,483.3 per dollar on April 30, down from 1,488.5 the day before, as oil prices jumped and Brent briefly hit $119.76 a barrel. The Federal Reserve also warned that the Middle East conflict is raising inflation, which reduced expectations of US rate cuts.
Higher oil raises South Korea's energy import bill and dollar demand, and a firmer dollar tightens financial conditions for energy-importing feed buyers. Crude strength also supports biofuel-linked and energy-linked commodity prices.
