India has doubled its wheat export quota to 5 million tonnes after an inter-ministerial committee approved an additional 2.5 mt, according to The HinduBusinessLine on 20 April 2026. A formal DGFT notification was still pending, and the 2022 export ban remains in place.
Higher permitted Indian wheat exports add supply to the global market and could pressure wheat prices, particularly if farmer selling in India also rises.
