Irish feed mills warned that ration prices could rise by £10 to £12 per tonne as soon as next month, with further increases possible by year-end. Grain prices have climbed through the summer on drought in Europe, Black Sea airstrikes, Middle East energy tensions and US trade policy.
Concerns also center on El Niño's potential effect on South American soy and maize.
Rising grain and ingredient costs, combined with difficult forward buying, are likely to pass through to higher livestock ration prices in the coming months.
