FEWS NET's first El Niño special report says the 2026/27 event has reached very strong levels and will bring rainfall anomalies to East Africa, the Sahel, Latin America, the Caribbean and Pakistan. Southern Africa faces below-average rains from October 2026 to March 2027, while the Horn of Africa faces flood risk.
Below-average rain across multiple grain-producing regions points to lower output and higher import needs, supporting feed grain prices over the coming season.
