The Grain Transportation Report notes a new JDH shuttle train facility in the Texas Panhandle and that Gulf bulk grain vessels continue avoiding the Panama and Suez canals, routing around Africa to reach East Asia. U.S. grain export shipments shifted from mostly soybeans to mostly corn in late February, and the U.S. average diesel price rose 21 cents to $4.109 per gallon.
Longer routings and Panama draft limits raise freight costs and slow shipments to Japan, which weighs on Gulf corn basis and export competitiveness. Higher diesel adds to hauling costs for feed ingredients.
