The U.S. average diesel price fell 8.2 cents to $3.458 per gallon for the week ending December 9, the largest weekly drop of 2024 and 52.9 cents below a year earlier. EIA expects diesel to average $3.55 in Q4 2024 and $3.61 in 2025.
Lower diesel costs reduce hauling and barge operating expenses for grain, modestly easing freight costs and pressure on farm-gate basis.
