The Lancet reports that H5N1 has spread widely in US dairy cattle, with a new D1.1 genotype linked to a death in Louisiana and a severe case in Canada. It also notes that FAO and WOAH have published a 10-year global avian influenza strategy calling for surveillance, vaccination and biosecurity.
The new genotype and the global strategy raise the likelihood of longer-term poultry and dairy disruption, which would affect feed demand. The article itself does not report a current supply loss that moves prices now.
