Brazil has reported its first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza on a commercial poultry farm. The disease has spread globally in recent years, leading to hundreds of millions of birds being culled.
Brazil is a leading chicken exporter, so a commercial-farm case can trigger import bans that cut its export supply and support global chicken prices. Lower poultry output also reduces demand for soybean meal and corn used in feed.
