Indonesia is studying rules requiring palm oil exporters to trade part of their oil on local exchanges before shipping. The aim is a reference price for taxes and levies and greater supply transparency, after a temporary export suspension in April 2022 disrupted markets.
A mandated local exchange reference could alter export pricing and flows, adding uncertainty to palm oil supply and export premiums for global buyers.
