The Solvent Extractors' Association of India asked the government to raise the duty differential between crude and refined palm oil to 15% from 7.5%. The group says rising refined palm oil imports are hurting domestic refiners, citing higher RBD palmolein and crude imports in 2022-23.
A wider duty gap would shift Indian palm imports back toward crude, changing the flow of palm products and affecting refined oil and soft oil demand.
