EIA reports U.S. biodiesel imports fell to 2,000 b/d in the first half of 2025 from 35,000 b/d a year earlier, and renewable diesel imports fell to 5,000 b/d from 33,000 b/d. The drop follows the loss of the blender's tax credit for imported fuel, which the 45Z credit now limits to domestic production, along with weaker domestic consumption.
Lower imports shift biofuel feedstock demand toward domestic production, which supports U.S. soybean oil use but reduces import-driven demand for feedstock oils from abroad.
