Drought expanded across much of the Illinois and Corn Belt region through February despite very cold temperatures, with most Corn Belt rainfall under an inch. The analyst suggests a dry start could lift US corn plantings to 93–95+ million acres, which is bearish for corn.
Lower 2024/25 carryout of 1.54 billion bushels means dry subsoils could make summer moisture more critical.
Higher corn acreage would weigh on corn prices, while a dry summer on tighter carryout would support them, making the price outlook two-sided for feed buyers.
