USDA's June 2021 Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report showed the all-hog inventory on June 1 at 75.7 million head, down 2% year on year and above analyst expectations of a 2.5% decline. Intended sow farrowings for June to August were 4% lower year on year, a bit below analyst expectations.
A smaller breeding herd and reduced farrowing intentions point to tighter hog supplies ahead, which supports hog prices and steadier demand for feed later in the year.
