USDA's annual data showed most US dairy products had higher output in 2017, with butter up 0.4% and American cheese up 6.4%. Dry whey production for animal feed jumped 36%, while feed-grade whey protein concentrate fell more than 26%.
Hard ice cream output dropped 2.4%.
Higher dry whey output for feed adds supply to the animal-feed ingredient market, which can weigh on feed-grade dairy byproduct prices.
