USDA Agricultural Research Service and Drexel University researchers are studying when on-farm soybean pressing makes economic sense compared with sending beans to a crush facility. The research examines whether growers should use the pressed oil for food or as on-farm energy.
Expanded on-farm pressing could divert some soybeans from commercial crushing, which marginally affects crush volumes and meal and oil supply. The effect on prices is likely small at this stage.
