Labor talks between US rail carriers and workers continue under the collective bargaining process after the White House-appointed emergency board issued its recommendations. Rail workers can legally strike from September 16, but Congress could intervene as it did in the 1990s.
The National Grain and Feed Association is monitoring the situation closely.
A stoppage in mid-September would fall during peak harvest shipments, which could strand grain at origin and widen basis. Buyers should expect more volatility in delivered feed costs if talks stall.
