Telangana millers face losses as the Centre has said it will procure only raw rice from the rabi season instead of customary parboiled rice. Millers say raw rice yields only about 50% from brittle rabi paddy, costing around ₹300 per quintal.
The procurement shift affects Indian milling output and rice flows to the FCI, but its effect on world rice prices is likely limited to domestic supply and milling economics.
