France's farm ministry estimates soft wheat plantings for the 2025 harvest at 4.51 million hectares, up 8.7% year on year. The rebound follows drier November weather that allowed growers to catch up on delayed sowing, avoiding a repeat of the rain-hit planting of 2024.
A larger French wheat area points to higher EU supply next year, after the 2024 harvest was the smallest since the 1980s. That is mildly bearish for wheat prices, though the area remains below the five-year average.
