A panel of cattle analysts at the US Meat Export Federation meeting discussed the effects of the Mexican cattle import closure and screwworm concerns. They said many impacts are already happening, including feedlot closures and operational changes on both sides of the border.
The longer the closure lasts, the more permanent the changes could become.
A prolonged loss of Mexican feeder cattle reduces US feeder supply, supporting feeder cattle prices and boosting demand for domestic animals.
