A Sicilian Wheat Bank weekly report says Russia's invasion of Ukraine lifted corn, soybeans, wheat and crude oil to new highs on Feb. 24, 2022.
Markets then sold off sharply on Feb. 25, with CBOT SRW wheat down 83 cents and corn and soybeans down about 4-5%.
The report notes the invasion could affect up to 20% of world corn trade and 30% of wheat trade, but risk premium built over weeks was unwound quickly. Feed buyers should weigh the potential supply disruption against the sharp correction.
