Vynova Belgium told a works council that its Tessenderlo-Ham caustic potash plant will shut unit by unit, with everything stopped by November 5, citing energy costs and the need to limit cash outflow. A debt-restructuring plan is due at the Hasselt enterprise court about eight days after the final shutdown, and the court cannot extend the deadline past December 26.
Belgium supplies more than half of imported caustic potassium hydroxide at a much lower price than other sources, so a shutdown could tighten supply and raise prices for buyers who rely on it.
