South Africa's Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago said the bank's models show current policy settings will return inflation to the 3% target once the shocks from the Middle East conflict fade. The central bank raised its policy rate by 25 basis points to 7.25% last month as higher energy and fertiliser prices resurfaced.
Inflation rose to 4.5% last month and has been above target since March.
Higher energy and fertiliser costs feed through to local feed and input prices, and tighter policy aims to stop that rise from becoming entrenched. For feed buyers, the rand's path and domestic rate settings affect the cost of imported grain and meal.
