Seoul Economic Daily analyzed KOSPI, won-dollar exchange rates and foreign net flows over 202 sessions from Jan. 2 through Oct.
30. It found foreign net selling was larger when the index, adjusted to the year-start exchange rate, sat in the 7,000-8,500 band.
The paper says a stronger won lowers the level at which selling pressure builds, so a KOSPI near 6,500 could trigger wider net selling.
Foreign equity outflows tied to won strength can pressure Korean currency and risk sentiment, which affects the importing cost of dollar-priced feed for Korean buyers. The effect on grain and meal prices is indirect, so the impact is limited.
