The EIA national average on-highway diesel price reached $6.352 a gallon on Oct. 26, up 7.6 cents on the week and $2.634 above a year earlier.
Regional prices ranged from about $5.89 in the Lower Atlantic to $8.155 in California, and the agency's October outlook projected retail diesel to ease but stay above year-ago levels.
Diesel is a major operating cost for feed haulers, so higher fuel prices raise delivered feed costs and fuel surcharges. Forecasts of prices staying elevated into 2027 support freight costs for feed buyers.
