An Imea estimate puts Mato Grosso’s total operating cost for the 2027 second corn crop at R$6,070 per hectare, against projected revenue of R$5,825, a shortfall of R$245. The projection assumes yields of 119.64 sacks per hectare and a price of R$48.69 per sack; meanwhile, Conab expects Brazil’s second-crop corn area to grow 3.7% in 2026/27, with Imea forecasting a 0.59% increase in Mato Grosso.
Weak projected margins could curb investment or temper future planting, which would be supportive for corn prices if acreage or yields fall. However, the area forecasts still point to expansion, limiting the immediate supply concern.
