The employers’ group at the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports and ILWU Local 26 extended their bargaining deadline through November 20, averting a potential strike by about 250 maritime watchmen. A strike could disrupt terminals that handle roughly 85% of Long Beach cargo and 33% of Los Angeles cargo, according to the Pacific Maritime Association.
The extension postpones immediate risk, but unresolved negotiations leave potential for port delays and higher freight costs if a strike occurs.
