China’s average live-hog price fell 5.7% week over week to 8.55 yuan/kg, leaving farrow-to-finish producers with an estimated loss of about 397 yuan per head. Piglet and sow prices also declined, while the report said breeding-sow numbers had fallen substantially and stricter production controls require large producers to reduce 2027 output by 4%.
Deepening losses and production cuts could eventually reduce hog supply, but currently ample market availability is pressuring prices. Lower hog and piglet prices point to weak near-term livestock demand for feed.
