India’s foreign exchange reserves fell by $2.69 billion to $717.06 billion in the week ended October 30, their second consecutive weekly decline. The decrease reflects a combination of RBI currency-market intervention, deployment of FCNR(B) funds and changes in the valuation of reserve assets; reserves remain above their end-March level.
RBI dollar sales can help cushion rupee weakness, though continued intervention draws down reserves. The reported decline alone does not establish a deterioration in India’s external position or imply a clear direction for the rupee.
