Swiss dairy processor Cremo has lost more than 75 million Swiss francs over four years, including a deficit of about 17 million francs in 2025. Overproduction, competition, low margins, equipment stoppages and a factory fire have weighed on its finances, while restructuring and closures have yet to restore profitability.
Cremo processes about one million litres of milk daily for products including butter and milk powder, and its capacity helps absorb surplus Swiss milk.
If Cremo cuts processing or capacity further, its 1,100 supplying farms may have fewer outlets and surplus milk could build up, pressuring Swiss milk prices. Continued operation of its facilities helps convert excess milk into dairy products and supports market balance.
