Goldman Sachs estimates the Egyptian pound is trading more than 30% below fair value after its October slide. The bank forecasts the dollar at EGP 53 in three months, EGP 52 in six months and EGP 50 in 12 months, and says foreign investors have reduced holdings of Egyptian local-currency debt.
Further depreciation would raise the local-currency cost of imported feed and fertilizer, while expectations of a weaker pound may keep importers cautious. The forecasts imply upward pressure on USD/EGP.
