India’s foreign-exchange reserves fell by $2.691 billion to $717.056 billion in the week ended October 30. Foreign-currency assets declined by $2.088 billion and gold reserves by $559 million, while the IMF reserve position edged up.
Lower reserves can reduce the buffer available to manage external-payment or currency pressures, potentially weighing on the rupee and lifting USDINR. The weekly decline is limited by the report that reserves remain above their end-March level.
