An at-home test involving 40 cats found no statistically significant preference between BioCraft’s cultivated-meat treat and a chicken treat: 20 cats chose each first, and more cats ate more of the chicken treat than the cultivated one. BioCraft can sell its cultivated meat as a pet-food ingredient in the EU after registering with Austrian authorities.
The test and regulatory approval may support development of cultivated ingredients in pet food, but the small trial does not establish meaningful displacement of conventional meat or feed demand. No near-term commodity price effect is indicated.
