The Irish Farmers’ Association is seeking an additional 7 cents per litre for liquid milk producers this winter, citing higher input costs and weakening base milk prices. It says the increase should come from existing retail margins rather than consumers, and is also calling for greater transparency across the supply chain.
If processors and retailers pass more of their existing margin to farmers, winter milk producers’ returns could rise without a corresponding increase in retail prices. The request itself does not establish that farmgate prices will change.
