Colombia’s central bank bought US$2 billion from the national government on November 6 at the prevailing exchange rate. The transaction increased international reserves by the same amount and is part of a reserve-accumulation program launched in August; the bank said it will monitor effects on peso liquidity.
The purchase strengthens Colombia’s foreign-currency buffer, while the central bank may need to manage the resulting peso-liquidity effects. No direct feed-commodity supply or demand impact is indicated.
