Irish spring barley yields varied in 2026: yields in the south were generally good, while drought and soil-moisture deficits hurt crops in parts of the Midlands. Yields in the northeast were somewhat better, and a Teagasc specialist said long-term yield gains for spring barley have averaged 0.76% annually over 22 years.
Drought-related yield losses in some areas may tighten local barley availability, while stronger southern yields partly offset the shortfall. The localized supply effect could lend modest support to barley prices.
