France’s Agriculture Ministry has begun a rapid assessment of strategic grain reserves amid geopolitical tensions and concerns about supply resilience. French small-grain cereal area has fallen by 900,000 hectares over the past decade, from 8.1 million hectares in 2016 to 7.2 million in 2026, largely because of low profitability.
Declining cereal acreage could limit future supply, while reserve-building could add demand for grain stocks and support prices. The assessment is exploratory, so any impact depends on whether France adopts a reserve program.
