The rupee strengthened 57 paise to 93.90 per dollar on Friday, its strongest close since late April and its best weekly performance in Asia. Falling oil prices and nearly $4 billion in foreign equity purchases over the past fortnight eased pressure on the currency.
A stronger rupee lowers the local-currency cost of imported feed and energy, while weaker crude prices ease costs for transport and production. Both moves are bearish for USDINR and crude benchmarks.
