India’s securities regulator SEBI revised currency-derivatives limits, allowing domestic investors and foreign portfolio investors to hold long or short rupee-linked contracts of up to $5 million without proving underlying foreign-currency exposure. The revised limit applies across recognised stock exchanges.
The change may increase participation and liquidity in rupee derivatives, but it does not directly alter physical feed or agricultural commodity flows. Any effect on import costs would come indirectly through changes in the rupee’s exchange rate.
