The Mexican peso appreciated on Friday, ending an eight-week run of losses, and closed at 18.62 pesos per dollar, up 0.65% against the previous day. It gained 0.93% over the week, supported early on by the Democratic victory in the US midterm elections, while an unexpected Banxico rate cut tempered optimism.
Peso appreciation can lower Mexico’s cost of imported feed and other dollar-priced commodities. The rate cut may narrow the yield advantage of Mexican assets and limit further gains in the peso, moderating that effect.
